Congo's Atlantic ports to reopen as strike ends

Trade union leaders in Democratic Republic of Congo have called off a port strike which crippled shipments in the west of the vast central African nation and said the country's sea ports would reopen on Monday.

Kinshasa suspend la retransmission de RFI dans tout le pays

Les autorités du Congo démocratique (RDC) ont suspendu à compter de dimanche la retransmission des émissions de Radio France Internationale (RFI) sur l'ensemble du territoire national, a annoncé lundi le ministre de la Communication et des Médias, Lambert Mende Omalanga, sans donner de raisons précises.

Congo's east dire, Goma prison Africa's worst - UN

A prison in eastern Congo's town of Goma is the worst in Africa, with 850 prisoners crammed into a jail built for 150 making conditions "inhumane", a top United Nations human rights official said. Dmitry Titov, the U.N. assistant-secretary general for rule of law, said the humanitarian situation in Congo's east was "dire" but he said U.N. peacekeepers were right to back the army in operations to stop the carnage despite intense criticism.

Congo's Kabila cleans out judiciary in graft swoop

Democratic Republic of Congo's President Joseph Kabila has sacked one in 10 of his country's judges and prosecutors to try to stamp out corruption in the judiciary, Congo's justice minister said on Thursday.

Ugandan LRA rebels capture 80 in Congo
